Literature Text

The lost city upon the hill, made by the aging man's one will,

Never a city found so perfect by a person ev'r before,

From the darkness it shines brightly, from the chaos it came rightly,

From afar it looks just slightly as if it springs from hill top's core,

Below the city sightly roars a crashing, thrashing, sandy shore,

Sits the city ever more.

People there are standing lifeless, frozen now forever lifeless,

All standing near each other staring at the city's door,

In the darkness this light impeeded, and in sin were these people needed,

From the ground the city bleeded, crystals spired from gold bricked floor,

The people who were needed, stood on the bleeding brick made floor,

Staring forever more.

This golden eden standing strong against the darkness found so wrong,

The majestic shining only adding to its wondrous glore,

Beyond the dead man's keeping, those who sowed now are reaping,

Through the walls the sin is seeping, seeping through the smooth and golden door,

Sin pushes harder and puts pressure on the slowly breaking door,

Only proving,

Nothing is forever more.
"For we must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us." ~John Winthrop

A dedication to the artistic nature of Edgar Allen Poe's poem, "The Raven". Three stanzas following his structure and basic mood. Advanced commentary is welcome.

"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night" ~Mr. Edgar Allen Poe

I like your use of meter quite a bit. It reminds me, in a somewhat playful way, of Poe. That's difficult to achieve.
